The flag should always be handled with respect. It must be handled with care. ASM guidelines concerning the handling of the flag are below. Please ensure employees who raise and lower out national symbol are aware of the respect that should be shown during this process. It is not something we have to do, it should be something we are proud to be able to do each day.

Each Post Office / Station is to order and maintain a back up American flag in their office. If the flag that is currently being flown becomes tattered or damaged, the back up flag is to be used and a new flag ordered to be available for use. At no time should any of our offices be flying a tattered or damaged flag. It sends the wrong message to our customers and to our veterans who have sacrificed so much to protect it.
Ordering information for the flags is below. Please inspect both your POW MIA flag and your American flag to ensure they are in good condition. If both or one need to be replaced do so immediately and remember to order a back up American flag to be kept in your office.
To purchase a replacement flag:
Log in to eBuy2
Click on the Procurement tab
Click on the Search Catalog Link on the left side of the screen
In the search field, type US Flag and click on the Go button
There will be many flags items displayed
Choose an outdoor flag that is the same size as the flag currently used at your facility (Nylon is the preferred fabric)
When you click on the selected flag, it can be added to an eBuy requisition. Once the requisition has been completed, it should be submitted for approval by the next higher approver.
